Kgotso Moleko had a baptism of fire as he was called to do the duty on the right back by Head Coach, Stuart Baxter following the absence of injured Siboniso Gaxa and the Free State born did not disappoint as he had a big performance in the 6-0 win over Amazulu.

The Absa Premiership opening fixture for the Glamour Boys was a crucial one following a week where Amakhosi lost against Mamelodi Sundowns coupled by an injury to Siboniso Gaxa and long term injury of Jimmy Tau.

Stuart Baxter called on the new signing from Bloemfontein Celtic joining a four men defence of Morgan Gould, Eric Mathoho and Jimmy Jambo and he did not disappoint as he kept AmaZulu wingers at bay. He was eventually replaced by Willard Katsande towards the end of the game but the no. 18 showed that he can stand up and be counted in what promises to be a thrilling season for Amakhosi.

“It was a big moment for me making my official debut for Kaizer Chiefs. I have been dreaming about this moment since I was a child – playing for a big club in front of a packed stadium,” he told kaizerchiefs.com following a gruelling training session at the Village on Tuesday afternoon.

“The Coach told me before the game to do what I know best and try to keep it simple. I was happy with my first touch even though I was nervous in the opening minutes. I told myself that I can do more and I started joining the attack as well.”

“The game was tough for us. There was lot of expectation following the two defeats against Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. We worked very hard ahead of the game and told ourselves that we have to do it for the Executive Chairman (Kaizer Motaung), Coach (Stuart Baxter) and the supporters who have been through thick and thin with the Club.”

“We were all delighted by the win but it all ends there as we have to prepare for the next game.”

Moleko is aware that with the kind of quality at Chiefs he cannot rest on his laurels; “I have to continue working hard and listen to what the Technical Team is telling me,” added Moleko
