Amakhosi defender Lawrence Molekwane has told kaizerchiefs.com that he is delighted to have been chosen by national u-23 coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba as part of his squad to face Egypt’s U-23 team in Cairo on Wednesday evening.

Molekwane who last featured for South Africa u-23 almost three years ago during a 2008 Olympic qualifying game against the Seychelles is hoping to use the trip to Egypt to cement his place in the team for the 2012 Olympic Qualifying Games and hopefully there after the games proper which will be staged in London.

Molekwane said “I have not played under coach ‘Shakes’ Mashaba and I am looking forward to getting to know his system as well as his style of play.

Getting this call up to travel to Egypt is a good opportunity for me to stake a claim for next year’s qualifying games for the Olympics, it has been a very long time since I last played for my country and I am going to do whatever it takes to ensure that I can be part of the team will play at the Olympics in 2012.”

The 21 year old Molekwane is one of four Chiefs players in the team that will face the Young Pharhoas on Wednesday evening, the others are George Lebese, Lucky Khune and Mandla Masango who was part of the South Africa U-20 team who played in the FIFA U-20 World Cup which was staged in Egypt last year.

Molekwane believes that the quartet of Chiefs players in the South Africa U-23 team can play their part in helping the team qualify for the London Olympic Games, “I am playing more for Chiefs now than I did a few years ago and that will mean that personally I can do better and give more to the team.

All of the guys Mandla, George and Lucky have had their chance to play this season and that will definitely help us when it comes to playing in this game against Egypt and hopefully in the qualifying games to follow, we are all sharper and hungry to get to the Olympics.”
