The Zimbabwean international striker was on Wednesday named as the Absa Premiership player of the month for October / November. He was picked by a panel of judges ahead of fellow nominees Orlando Pirates duo Andile Jali and Thulasizwe Mbuyane as well as Vasco Da Gama’s veteran striker Sibusiso Zuma and Golden Arrows’ Siyabonga Nkosi.
On collection of his award at the Premier Soccer League offices in Johannesburg a gleaming Musona said, “winning this award is thanks to my teammates and their hard work, the build up to our goals starts at the back and everyone plays a part in helping me score goals.”
The judges, amongst their reasons for selecting Musona as the best player in the Premiership for this period, said that he ‘had emerged as the leading marksman in the top flight this season. He makes good runs and connects well with the midfield. This youngster’s Big Match Temperament came to the fore.’
Winning back to back prizes a day apart according to Musona is motivation for him to push on and build on the foundations that has been laid, “winning these awards will be motivation for me to go on and do more for my team.
It is not for me to sit back- no I now need to double my efforts and take inspiration from this and hopefully more will come.”
During the judging period which ran through the months of October and November Musona bagged four goals for the Amakhosi in league action, scoring once against SuperSport United and a brace against Orlando Pirates as Chiefs defeated their arch rivals 3-1 to record their first away league triumph against the Buccaneers in five seasons.
Musona was also on target during Chiefs 3 – 2 loss to Vasco Da Gama at the end of November, his goal against Vasco was his sixth in the league which saw him go joint top of the goal scorer’s chart where he shares top spot with Mpumalanga Black Aces striker Mpho Maleka.
Knowledge was given a cash prize of R10 000 as well as four sets of soccer kit given to him by Absa and the PSL in conjunction with Dreamfields Projects for him to donate to a school’s of his choice, which he will be handing out to two schools in Soweto and Orphanage in Pretoria and a school in Zimbabwe.
