Motaung broke the news at his club’s head offices in Naturena on Tuesday, 08th February 2005 to his management team.
"I am delighted to let you know that I have been approached by Primedia chairman Paul Nkuna with Group CEO William Kirsh, to serve on the Primedia board, something I welcome and embrace as a challenge, and I know there should be a lot expected of me by the board from a football business point of view.
"It will also cement current relationships with Primedia," said the hard-working Motaung, renowned for having built his club from an ordinary soccer team to one of the most admired football brands and successful businesses on the continent.
Primedia bought 40% of Kaizer Chiefs in 1999 as a way of making in-roads into the world’s biggest sport, and there is no doubting that the company has begun seeing its Return on Investment with a club of Kaizer Chiefs’ calibre and the milestones the club has enjoyed for the past five years since Primedia’s capital investment.
"We are excited at this appointment and to us it confirms that sombre corporates are recognising the contributions our chairman has been making towards the commercialisation of football and we are certain he will add incredible value in the Primedia business environment particularly because the country’s focus towards football business has shifted to another level.
"‘Happiness is not a state to arrive at, but a manner of travelling' Margaret Lee Runbeck once said and so we congratulate you Captain Chincha," said club communications manager Putco Mafani, responding on behalf of management, staff, players and supporters.
