The Amakhosi fraternity will be happy to learn about the return of player they used to call ‘The Smiling Assassin’ owing to his tricks and manoeuvres past defenders during his tenure in the Gold and Black jersey.
Musona arrived at Kaizer Chiefs unknown to many supporters in 2009. It didn't take long for him to announce his arrival at Kaizer Chiefs and was awarded the PSL Rookie of the Year award in 2010 even though he only played a handful of games during that season.
Musona stamped his authority in front of goals and confirmed his football prowess when he scored 15 goals in 28 league games to win the "Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot" in the 2010-11 season.
The Zimbabwean-born, moved from Hoffenheim to a Bundesliga side FC Augsburg on a loan deal in 2012. The Zimbabwean International, who recently (9 June 2013) scored for Zimbabwe when they played against Egypt in the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, returns to South Africa to reinforce the Amakhosi strike force.
About his return to the Glamour Boys, Musona said; “There’s nothing much to say – Kaizer Chiefs is my team and my first home.
I am happy to be back. And looking forward to the season and working with the players and the technical team. Any jersey number will do for me, as I don’t play a number, I play football. My stay in Germany was tough especially as I didn’t get much game time due to changes in management at both teams that I played for. I always checked Chiefs results on line. And was happy to see that PSL has become tough, there is no longer a small team and was also happy to see the league getting stronger.”
Football Manager, Bobby Motaung, was overjoyed after a marathon process was finalised this morning; “Bringing back Musona signals our intentions as we prepare for what promises to be a competitive season following the league and cup double achievement of the 2012-13 PSL Season. We brought Musona on one season loan with an option to buy.
When we sold him we agreed with Hoffenheim that Kaizer Chiefs will be his home in case Musona returns to South Africa. This is a clear statement that we mean business and we always do our best to bring the best talent to Kaizer Chiefs.”
