Amakhosi physiotherapist David Milner confirmed late on Tuesday that Kaizer Chiefs will be without the services of midfielder David Obua for at least the next three weeks, citing an inflamed hamstring .

It is suspected that Obua, a Ugandan international, initially injured his hamstring while playing for his country earlier this month, against Lesotho in an African Cup of Nations Qualifying match.

Obua, who was Chiefs' player of the season last term, did not travel with the team to Kimberley this past weekend as a precautionary measure, and played no part in Chiefs goalless draw with Ajax Cape Town.

Milner, while confirming Obua’s absence from duty for the next couple of games, said, “when he returned from national team duty, we suspected that he had picked up a knock. Initially he shrugged it off as nothing, but it was clear that he was in a lot of discomfort tests we did last week revealed our worst fears which was that he had a slightly more serious injury”.

Coach Ernst Middendorp commenting on Obua’s injury said, “Obua is a key player, we do have a big squad of players to choose from and in football you need to be ready for every eventuality”.

David himself cut a forlorn figure on Tuesday as he went for special treatment, while his team mates did the final touch up’s ahead of Wednesday’s league encounter against Wits University.

Obua said “this injury is totally unexpected for me and it is a real blow for me, as I was looking forward towards helping the team get three points against Wits and also reaching the SAA Supa8 Final. All I can do now is make sure that the recovery process goes well and try to get back to full fitness as fast as I can”.

The Twenty two year old Chiefs sensation will have to watch his team mates in action against Bidvest Wits University from the stands at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening, he will also be a spectator for this weekends crucial SAA Supa8 semifinal clash with Moroka Swallows.

It is also unlikely that he will be fit in time for Chiefs PSL game away to Golden Arrows at the start of October, but is expected back for Chiefs crunch home game on the 14th October against Mamelodi Sundowns.
