One on One with Consumer Coach: Johannes Letube

Johannes ‘Arafat’ Letube’s dream to be part of the Kaizer Chiefs brand was realized on Monday when he was announced as the Consumer Coach for Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, 27 July 2013 when they take on rivals, Orlando Pirates in the 3rd edition of the Carling Black Label Cup at FNB Stadium (15:30 kick-off).

An elated Letube (24) who works as a Stocktaker for Dial-a-Student took time on Tuesday morning to speak to kaizerchiefs.com about his ambitions for Saturday to send a strong message to rivals Orlando Pirates.

Congratulations on becoming the Consumer Coach for Saturday; how does it feel?

Thank you! It is a dream come true for me and I would like to thank Carling Black Label and Kaizer Chiefs for offering me this kind of experience even if it is for one day. It is something that will always stay with me. I am so excited about the prospects of working with Head Coach, Stuart Baxter, the rest of the Technical Team and the players.

When did you start supporting Kaizer Chiefs?

It was in the mid-1990s when we had the likes of Shakes Kungwane, Botende Eshele, Brian Baloyi, Thabo Mooki, Jacob Tshisevhe, Tsepo Molatedi, David Nyathi and David Modise coached by Jeff Butler. My dad, Lucas also a Kaizer Chiefs supporter, had a great influence in me supporting the Glamour Boys and since then I have never looked back. I have always wanted to play for Chiefs growing up and now that I am going to be a Coach in what is a massive game in the football calendar.

How did you enter the competition?

I followed the rules by sms(ing) the number I found on the bottle cap of Carling Black Label. I knew when I received a call that I am one of the contenders that I was going to win the competition.

You must be excited about Saturday…

I am looking forward to it, people ‘eKasi’ (township) are already talking about the game and asking me questions about what is going to happen.

I am joining a team that won two trophies last season so it is important for us to keep the standards and take the trophy to Naturena. Orlando Pirates have already won the trophy two times and now it’s our turn.

They should brace themselves for a very tough match. We will have a plan for them and I cannot wait to sit around with the rest of the technical team to beat them.

Who is your all-time favourite Coach at Chiefs?

It is Ted Dumitri. I liked the way his teams played and he planned for the opposition. Stuart Baxter is up there with the best though, this must be said. He did an unbelievable job for the team last season. He is an interesting Coach and I am looking forward to learning from him, his Technical Team and everyone at the Club.

What message do you have for the Kaizer Chiefs supporters?

Come in numbers and let us make this a Carling Black Label Cup one to remember. Let us wear our colours and support the boys not only in the Carling Cup but during the season as they have done before.

Amakhosi 4 Life!
