Over all we were not convincing enough against them and we played well below par, we also did not create many goal- scoring opportunities, which made our job winning the game tougher. Sundays game I think is one of those matches I felt that the sooner we can forget about it the better, the reality though is that we need to look at that game over and over again and rectify our mistakes.

First up our midfield was just not up to the challenge against Benoni United, Siyabonga Nkosi was just not playing his normal game I expected more from him up front but for all of his efforts nothing came off it. David Obua was given free reign to attack but he too was unable to show the same kind of form he did against SuperSport United. Our inability to conjure up chances speaks a lot and explains my disappointment we, just lacked creativity and enterprise in the last quarter of the field.

I also had a look at other results over the weekend apart from Swallows narrow victory over Silver Stars, which came courtesy of a penalty kick and Ajax Cape Town’s 2-2 draw with Golden Arrows. The rest of the games were low scoring draws which does not bode well for the league, I have put it down to one important fact and that is the state of the playing surfaces.

Majority of the pitches around the country are in a poor state, as they are not well grassed as well as the overall surface of the ground being very bumpy and uneven. It was the case on Sunday as well as we played on a very uneven surface, with the kind of game we play playing on such surfaces does in many ways hamper our ability to string together passes and really get going. If you look at the way we played against SuperSport United compared to yesterdays game, one will notice a marked difference in our style. Playing on a poor surface means that it takes longer for players to bring the ball under control and by the time they do there are two or three opposition players around you.

On Wednesday evening we are back on our own turf so to speak when we face Jomo Cosmos at the FNB Stadium, as we will be playing on a carpet, which is the luscious turf of the FNB Stadium. It is our home ground and I can assure the fans that there will be a marked improvement in our performance on Wednesday evening in relation to our game against Benoni United.

Anyway we will go further into the Cosmos game on Wednesday, we will begin our preparations a more determined team willing to give everything for victory, also put behind us what has happened on the weekend as I do have the belief that the worst is behind us and from here on wards we can only go forward and improve with every game that we play.
