It was an emotional moment for the two football legends when Kaizer Motaung, former player of Atlanta Chiefs and Pele of Santos met.
The two great friends met briefly and Amakhosi chairman Kaizer Motaung exchanged very fond episodes of memories with Pele before the media whisked Pele away for interviews.
The Chiefs boss presented Pele with a picture they took together as players at a soccer match in the US before kick off in the late sixties.
After the game it was all smiles and mixed emotions in the Chiefs camp when the club’s name was announced as the winners of the Peace Cup Fair Play Award.
Three awards only were given to clubs, namely First Prize and Runners up. The only one presented by Pele was the Fair Play Award presented to Kaizer Chiefs.
Team Manager Bobby Motaung took to the stage under the soaking rain to receive this award on behalf of the team, a special award presented by legendary Pele during the brief presentation session that followed a water logged final.
The trophy comes with gold medals for all players in the Chiefs camp.
This award recognises Kaizer Chiefs' most fairest approach to the game, not only because of the least number of bookings (1 yellow card) but by FIFA standards, the discipline and sportsmanship displayed at all the club’s games, including the flair and flow of the game.
It has been the most amazing experience for the Kaizer Chiefs camp, an achievement that will go down in the history books of the club.
Viva Amakhosi Viva!
