Phefeni Glamour Boys meet Dube Birds

The Phefeni Glamour Boys and the Dube Birds look in good shape with the hosts sitting on top of the Absa Premiership table and the latter having won the MTN8 in September a victory that has boosted them as one of the top teams in the country.

The Soweto Derby on Tuesday, 20 November 2012 at Soccer City Complex, Soweto will provide the side from Phefeni an opportunity to continue with the dominance over the Soweto neighbours.

The rivalry between the two Soweto teams comes a long way as early as in the 70s when Kaizer Chiefs was formed. Moroka Swallows fans felt that Kaizer Chiefs was a ‘‘breath of fresh air’’ because of the type of players they recruited and the style the team exude ‘took’ some of their fans from their nest. Kaizer Chiefs was also responsible for relegating the Swallows side from being a powerhouse.

The clashes between the two sides have remained legendary; as a players like Johannes ‘Chippa’ Molatedi, Mike ‘Sporo’ Mangena, Abel ‘Chacklas’ Shongwe, Marc ‘Yellow like Cheese’ Bachelor who played for both teams would attest.

One result though that has been common is the domination of Kaizer Chiefs; “We always beat Moroka Swallows but the past results mean nothing come Tuesday. We respect Moroka Swallows as one of the powerhouses in South African football,” said Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung.

“The team has been hard at work and despite the recent back to back moral boosting wins against Golden Arrows and SuperSport United we know that we cannot afford to rest on our laurels. The league is a marathon and there are up to 20 games to go.

“We have to acknowledge though the work the team together with the Technical Team have put to take the team to the level that is in now. This has been as a result of hard work from everyone involved. We cannot forget our supporters who have been a 12th player since the start of the season. But it is important to take into consideration that it is early days and their support will remain crucial until the last game of the season,” added Jessica Motaung.

Tickets for the game are already flying out of Shoprite/Checkers and Computicket nationwide as Corporate Communications and Public Relations Manager, Vina Maphosa commented; “It is a massive game for us and we are not surprised by the level of interest in this particular game.

Our branches around the country have been planning for this game for a while and we know that there will be one team on the stands on Tuesday; the one wearing gold and black.

The fans need to be congratulated on the way they have been handling themselves during matches. Their behaviour has rubbed off on to the players on the pitch. Teams have to face more than just eleven players on the pitch but fans who also rally behind the team and from the Executive Chairman to the players at Naturena this we appreciate.

“We would like to once more urge the fans to buy tickets early to avoid disappointment. The tickets are selling for R40 adults. It is all systems go as far as planning for this game is concerned. The security will be tight and fans who sell fake tickets will face the might of the law,”

“We would like to invite The Amakhosi faithful in and around Soweto to a Roadshow to be hosted on Monday, 19 November 2012. The roadshow will feature Kaizer Chiefs properties; Kaizer Chiefs Insurance, Kaizer Chiefs Retail and Amakhosi Supporters Club. We aim to take over Dobsonville on Monday before conquering Soweto on the 20th November,” added Maphosa.

Details for the Roadshow are as follows:
