Chiefs were in the hunt to qualify for their second Manchester United Premier Cup, as it turned out lady luck was not to be singing a favourable tune for Chiefs.

The young Amakhosi began their campaign well enough with a credible goalless draw against Africa Sport who hail from the Vaal region of Gauteng; the team from the Vaal were one of the pre tournament favours. Chiefs under 15 team being lead by of Ntsie Maphike who had recently taken over the reigns from the late Patrick ‘Ace’ Ntsolengoe.

Then set about taking Arcadia Shepard’s apart in their next game as the young Amakhosi ran out 4-0, with goals coming one a piece from Shadrack Macthlaong and Greatwell Nkosi, the scoring was rounded off by Kgomtso Fatso Ramabu who made the game certain with a brace in the second half.

On the second match day, things did not go according to plan for Amakhosi as their final opponents in the group stages Welkom Juventus from the Free State failed to turn up. This meant that Chiefs were awarded three points and two goals for the walk over.

With Africa Sport winning their final game against Arcadia by a 5-0 score line, it meant that they would proceed to the ½ Finals and as a result Chiefs were eliminated as Africa Sport had a superior goal difference.

When the tournament kicked off on Friday, the young Chiefs harboured high hopes of making it all the way to Manchester for the World Finals. With Welkom Juventus eliminated after the first day of competition, it was widely believed that they decided not to return for Saturday morning’s game which ultimately meant that it was Chiefs who were to suffer the indignation of early elimination through circumstances beyond their control.
