Kaizer Chiefs Captain, Itumeleng Khune told kaizerchiefs.com that he and his teammates are excited to have won the Absa Premiership but now their focus is on the Nedbank Cup taking place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 25 May 2013.

Tickets for the game scheduled to kickoff at 15h00 are already sold out setting up a potential thrilling final between the Soweto based giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Pretoria based, SuperSport United.

“It is important that we separate preparations from celebrations. We are of course excited as a team to win the league but now it is preparation time for the Nedbank Cup Final. We have had to shelve our celebrations for winning the league title.

“It is important that we prepare well first to ensure that we bring smiles to the multitudes of our supporters and after that we can celebrate,” said Khune following the two hours of grueling trainining session at Kaizer Chiefs HQ in Naturena.

“SuperSport United showed us in Polokwane about a week ago that they are no pushovers. They did not give us any respect.

This past weekend just like us they lost their game and we expect them to come to us like a house on fire. We just need to focus on our game plan as mapped out by the Technical Team.

‘Spider’ as Khune is affectionately known has been nominated for top PSL awards including the Footballer of the Season (including his teammate, Bernard Parker and Thuso Phala from Platinum Stars), Goalkeeper of the Year Award and Nedbank Cup Awards.

“I would like to thank each and every one who has supported me in my career especially the goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker; these nominations are dedicated to them.

“I would also like to congratulate my co-nominees and wish them all the best. The focus for me now is the Nedbank Cup Final….I have my eyes firmly on the cup,” added Khune who was Club’s Player of the Year in 2007/2008 season.

Itumeleng Khune (25) has made 171 appearances in the gold and black since making his debut back in 2007/2008 season. He has already won the Telkom Knockout three times, MTN8 once, Absa Premiership twice and was no. 1 goalkeeper for Bafana Bafana in the Confederations Cup 2009, World Cup 2010 and Africa Cup of Nations 2013.
