Name: John Moshoeu

Date of Birth: 13 December, 1965

Position: Midfield

Jersey Number: 91

Honours: 68 Full International Caps, 8 International Goals

With 11 goals and one breathtaking performance after the other, 37-year-old Moshoeu confounded the critics and was an inspirational figure as Chiefs marched to their first league title in 12 years.

How does it feel to finally win a league title?

For me it is wonderful to have achieved this accolade but I think that there are other people who have toiled harder and suffered longer than me when the club went so many years without the league title. This is a great achievement for Kaizer Motaung and for all the supporters from the Saddam Maakes to the unknown supporters in the rural areas this title is actually theirs.

Were you happy with your contributions during the season?

At the end of the day we have achieved what we set out to do and I think I was part of the whole plan. You have to be a team player because it is not Shoes who won the league, it is a team effort so you do your part and ensure that it helps complete the bigger picture.

Does it please you to see that the supporters acknowledge what you have done?

Definitely because it is for them we turn out every week, to entertain them and make them proud of the team they support. If the supporters are happy with my performances then that is encouragement to work harder and give more.

What was the secret behind the team’s success this season?

Personally I think it was all the players’ desire and hunger to achieve. We had both experience and youth in the team and we gelled incredibly well. The coach aided the unity and the will to win and these are the ingredients for success.

South Africa has been awarded the 2010 World Cup. Firstly will you still be playing and what is its significance to the country?

Obviously it is a great boost for soccer in this country and we need to ensure that local soccer benefits from the World Cup.

On the administrative side we need to be careful to ensure that certain games are not poorly attended and we need to address this because I don’t think empty stadiums at the World Cup is a good thing.

As for playing, 2010 is six years away. They said I would achieve nothing when I returned to Chiefs two years ago.

Today I’m the leading goal scorer in the championship winning side. So anything is possible. I will be involved somehow, we will just have to wait and see in which role that will be.
