Fresh from scoring against Orlando Pirates for the Amakhosi this past weekend Chiefs striker Kaizer Motaung JR. has talked down his goal during the derby and insists that he is only doing the job he is being asked to do.

As he said to kaizerchiefs.com “to be honest for me it really does not matter who the opposition are, whether it is in a derby or any other game as a striker you want to score in every game and scoring helps build confidence. It was not the result we wanted against Pirates but scoring was important.”

Kaizer says the fact that Chiefs are getting back into league action soon after the agony of conceding a late goal against Orlando Pirates Tuesday’s game against Vasco Da Gama is the perfect opportunity for them to bounce back to winning ways.

“We thought we had the game against Pirates in the bag, to concede late on was hard. It is a good thing that we have a game quickly against Vasco. Who knows come Tuesday night we could be top of the league, if we had to wait a whole week after the derby for our next game it would not have been good for us.”

Chiefs are left with eight games in the league and with their games being fairly spaced out during March, April and May Motaung feels that it will be in the team’s best interest to ensure that they are able to challenge for honours in the Nedbank Cup in addition to staying in close touch with the league leaders.

“As a player you want to keep on playing week in and week out because it keeps the focus, having breaks in between can break the momentum. At this stage of the league every game is important to us, these remaining eight games will be a test for us.

A good cup run is important for us, if we winning in the cup and in the league it is good for us, winning can become a habit, it also breeds confidence. If you winning it brings a different mentality to the team, if we winning games in the cup it will help us in the league.”
