The operation which began at three o’ clock in the afternoon was completed late on Monday evening; Serge was torn apart by a tackle from Jomo Cosmos defender Andrew Rabutla during a PSL encounter on the 22nd of September.

The burly Ivorian underwent an operation as he had damaged cruciate ligaments in the back of his knee as well as torn muscles in the back of the calf.

Amakhosi physiotherapist David Milner speaking from the Rosebank Clinic said: "from the information that the surgeons have relayed to us things do not look good for Serge - we will have to wait a few days and see how he responds to the treatment."

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp was not a happy man when given the news and reacted by saying: "the surgeon has told me that they had to operate on his knee and calf. He said that the player will take six months to recover from the injury."

The coach was further upset when he was given what can only be described as upsetting information. "They also told me that there is a doubt over Serge’s career as a soccer player and that there was the possibility his playing days are over.”

To the man who committed the foul that has caused the Amakhosi striker difficulty and the coach sleepless nights Ernst Middendorp said: “I hope Andrew Rabulta is happy that he might have ended the career of a promising twenty two year old player. The sad part is that he did not even get a card for the tackle which is more amazing - sometimes you just have to sit back and wonder what is happening to our beautiful game."

Serge will remain in hospital under observation and is expected to return home at the end of the week.
