After much media hype and public demand, Kaizer Chiefs sensational midfielder and genius John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu has been called up by coach Shakes Mashaba to bolster the attack and stability of the South African national squad, ahead of the international friendly game against Costa Rica scheduled for the 11 October 2003 in South Africa.

Moshoeu's call-up comes at a time when the recent announcements about the Cup of nations draw sent alarms in South African Football circles. In group D of the AFCON Bafana Bafana are drawn against the likes of Nigeria, Morocco and Benin.

Furthermore, Moshoeu has been invited to be part of the technical and tactical assessment panel that will sit in a session from 28th – 30th September 2003 for the Bafana Bafana camp.

“I am extremely happy for him because I believe success can come any time to a person and it has got nothing to do with age as suggested by many people. I can only hope that Shoes will exploit all his expertise at Chiefs for the benefit of our lovely nation. Greater things are on the way for him, his club and his nation”, were the words of mentor and Chiefs head coach Ted Dumitru when approached for comment.

Shoes Moshoeu is one of three players from the Amakhosi camp called up for this game. The others are graduates of the Shakes Mashaba Olympic class of 2000 in Sydney, Australia when South Africa defeated the likes of Brazil, and these are high riding dribbling wizard Stanton Fredericks and left wing defender David Kannemeyer.
