Amakhosi midfielder Gerald Sibeko is looking forward to making a telling contribution to the Chiefs' course in the upcoming season. Having recently signed a one year extension to his contract, he is looking ahead with relish to what will effectively be his 11th season with Chiefs.

Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com, Sibeko, who turned 31 earlier this month, holds the view that being able to extend his contract at Chiefs is a source of motivation for him ahead of the new season.

“Getting the extension to my contract means a lot because it says to me that the team believe I can still play a role in their success over the next season.

"The pre-season is always an exciting time and going into this period knowing that you are in a settled position helps you to get down and concentrate on the job ahead”, said Sibeko.

Extending his contract for another season means that Sibeko will get to add to the silverware he has already won with the club and he is targeting as much match action as he can in the new season.

“Over the next season I would like to contribute as much as possible to the team’s success and play in as many games as I can as well.

"I have 10 seasons worth of experience at this club and hopefully I can draw on that to assist me over this next campaign. I will be willing to play in whichever position the coach feels I can be of most value to the team.”

As one of the seasoned veterans at the club, Sibeko believes he has another responsibility. “Having come through the youth ranks at Chiefs and being a rookie myself once upon a time, I know how important it is to quickly adapt to life as a professional footballer.

"Hopefully I can help some of the younger players assimilate into the first team easily. It is also important for us to get the new players used to us and our system, so that by the time the season is underway they are able to play at their best from the start.”
