Stuart Baxter believes that Kaizer Chiefs faithful will be a 12thplayer on Saturday, 24 August 2013, when the Glamour Boys welcome Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium for the 1st leg of MTN8 semifinal.
The two sides met in the preseason period, in the Carling Black Label Cup, back in July with Amakhosi signaling their intentions of 2013-14 PSL season with 1-0 victory. Lehlohonolo Majoro scored the all-important goal in front of a sold-out FNB Stadium.
Over the years the gold and black faithful have outnumbered their counterparts and Baxter believes that if the supporters can rally behind the team for the first minute it can rub off on to the players.
“The supporters will come in their numbers and they will be an extra player for us. When they rally behind the team as they have done over the years, in particular last season, it makes a difference as it inspires the lads on the pitch,” said Baxter speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Thursday evening.
Kaizer Chiefs has not lost a game at home since Baxter took over the reins in June 2012;
"Big teams all over the world make their home ground a fortress and this is what we want to achieve with FNB Stadium.
It will of course be difficult to achieve this in just a season but it is encouraging that we have not lost a game at home for a while. We expect this to be a motivation for other teams as records are there to be broken but for us the motivation is to extend the unbeaten run."
Baxter continued; “I expect both teams to have a real go at each other. These are the two biggest teams in the country and there is always a lot at stake. It is a Soweto derby, after all!
There might be a bit of a difference as far as tactical approach of the game is concerned as the game will be played over two legs. After the final whistle both teams will feel that there is the other half to go and this might bring a tactical dimension to the game.
We are motivated ahead of the game and once again ready to give 100 %,” added Stuart Baxter.
