Sweet 91 for Shoes!

You could call it the late, late show. Substitute John 'Shoes' Moshoeu, a veteran in his own right wearing jersey No 91 came off the bench to give Chiefs all three points in this Castle Premiership clash.

The 37-year-old midfielder ran on to a through ball from defender Cyril Nzama to beat Andre Arendse in the Santos goal in the 91st minute.

It was Moshoeu’s third goal of the season, and the win sees Amakhosi move to eighth place on the log. When these two clubs met a few weeks ago, the encounter produced one of the best matches seen in the Castle Premiership this season, as the clash swayed from end to end.

So in the build-up to this clash, fans were expecting very much the same. Also, with former Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral back in Rustenburg for, the sparks were expected to fly.

But, unfortunately, it was one of the worst games of football seen in a long time as neither side was able to take the initiative. The match was full of errors, with particularly Chiefs producing a rather mediocre performance by their usual high standards.

Santos had a chance to open the scoring in the 75th minute when Fees Moloi dispossessed Peter Matshitse, who was trying to dribble his way out of defence. Moloi’s shot scraped to the Chiefs crossbar to give Amakhosi a lifeline.

But with everybody expecting a draw, and some already making their way to the exits, Moshoeu struck to get his side back on track after two consecutive defeats.
