Mandla ‘Bullet’ Masango has told kaizerchiefs.com that the call up to the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2013 Cosafa Cup held in Zambia on July 2013, boosted his confidence following a season where he did not see a lot of game time.

Masango who made his debut for the Glamour Boys in the 2007/2008 season made his debut for the national team against Zambia. Masango scored on his full debut against Lesotho as Bafana Bafana ran 2-1 winners.

This made the Mpumalanga born midfielder one of the players who have represented the country from every level. Masango has played for U17, U20 and the U23s.

“The call up really boosted my confidence. I am glad to have now represented my country at all levels and I am hungry for more caps,” said Masango following a training session on Tuesday.

“I know though that I have to continue working hard at club level where I am hoping to get more game time this season.”

Masango made his first appearance this season in the 3-0 drubbing of University of Pretoria on Saturday, 10 August; “The Coach (Stuart Baxter) had a chat with me before I joined the Cosafa Cup squad. He told me he wanted me to get some game time to boost my confidence ahead of the 2013/2014 season.”

“I am glad it all worked out as I managed to play and of course it was a proud moment when I scored on full debut.”

“The Coach told us before the start of the season that this season is going to be tougher than the previous one as we aim to defend the double we won last season and add a few more trophies.”

“He told us that he is expecting 10% more effort from each and every member of the squad. I want to continue doing my best at training and make a contribution to the success of the Club.”

Masango revealed that he focused on his career at Chiefs even when there was a talk of him playing elsewhere this season; “I never spoke to anyone and even after the Cosafa Cup I remained humble. I am as motivated as ever to work hard and achieve with the Club this season. “

“I would like to don the Bafana Bafana jersey again but it all starts at the Kaizer Chiefs Village, I need to work harder and grab each and every opportunity presented to me by the national team,” added Masango.

Mandla Masango has made 97 appearances for the Glamour Boys scoring eight goals since making his debut back in 2007.
