Head Coach, Stuart Baxter paid a glowing tribute to the fans following their fantastic behaviour as the Glamour Boys came from behind to draw 1-all with Orlando Pirates in a thrilling Soweto Derby at the packed FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Baxter greeted the fans after the game joined by Football Manager, Bobby Motaung; “I felt the fans were fantastic today and really rallied behind the team.
“We need to highlight it when fans do well as much as we talk about it when they boo the players. On Saturday they rallied behind the team from the first to the last minute and this rubbed off on the players.
“Even though they would have wanted nothing less than a win they should be pleased in the manner in which we came back from behind and we should have snatched a winner in the closing stages of the game.
“I would like to thank each and every fan who came through from the different parts of the country to support the team,” Baxter told Kaizerchiefs.com
Going back to the game Baxter commented; “I have never seen the players so tense and making so many mistakes. It was difficult to get any sort of cohesion early on. Pirates were dangerous on transition.
“We had to make sure after halftime that our play is better. We opened the field a little bit and it seemed to work for us. The play went backwards and forward.
“Both teams put the ball in dangerous areas and I think the crowd had a wonderful time. I believe we should have done much better and I was not really pleased with the overall performance.
“We will take the draw from this game and we will need to get back on track as soon as possible.
Baxter also explained the decision to pick Lehlohonolo Majoro ahead of Kingston Nkhatha for the Soweto Derby, “Major (Lehlohonolo Majoro) was rested a little bit against Ajax Cape Town. We thought his speed will be vital for us. Our passing game though did not help us that much and I think his goal was due to individual brilliance. Kingston came in and did quite well.
