Doctor Khumalo paid a glowing tribute to the players for showing tactical discipline as the Glamour Boys qualified for the Nedbank Cup final following a 2-1 win against first division outfit, United FC.

Khumalo had to see the last tense five minutes alone on the bench after the referee removed Head Coach, Stuart Baxter from the bench.

“Well done to the boys for the win. They stuck to the tactics of the day. It was unfortunate that our Coach had to be removed from the bench,” said Khumalo who conducted post-match interviews in the absence of Stuart Baxter.

Kaizer Chiefs no. 2 admitted that United FC were difficult opponents; “We knew coming into this game that we were facing a difficult side in United. Credit should go to my colleague coach, Dan (Malesela) for the job well done with the youngsters.

“It was not a fluke for them to qualify for the semifinals. They knock the ball around well and we knew that and planned accordingly. They never really threatened us except on one or two occasions when they penetrated the defence.

“We are pleased to be through to the final at the end of the day. It was our main objective coming to this game.

The Club’s legend also poured cold water to the suggestions that the hosts were ‘defensive’ on the evening; “It was just a tactical application where we allowed United FC to knock the ball around and we remain compact. It worked wonders,”

Kaizer Chiefs will now face the winner between SuperSport United and Platinum Stars on Saturday, 25 May 2013 at the venue to be confirmed by the Premier League.

Khumalo added that they will not rest on their laurels until the final whistle; “We have a long way to go. We will be back at the Village on Monday to continue with the hard work. The next two league games will be a test of character.”
