Head Coach, Stuart Baxter has revealed that the players are working twice as hard at their preseason camp in Mpumalanga.
The Glamour Boys went to camp last Thursday in preparation for what promises to be yet another thrilling season in the PSL.
Speaking from the camp, Baxter described the players attitude at training as “fantastic” despite the cancellation of the game against Ismaily Sporting SC of Egypt that was scheduled to take place this coming Saturday.
“The players have been fantastic from day one. There have been challenges with one of the games being cancelled but all they want is just to train. They have been working twice as hard.
We have managed to secure a game this coming weekend against a team from Swaziland. We hope to use the opportunity to see how far the players have gone since our first day here.
I welcomed them back yesterday after the training session, I simply said; “Welcome Guys”. We had already had 10 sessions but I felt for the first time that we had a good work out with everyone involved following the absence of the internationals, injured players and trialists. We will from now onward step up our preparations.”
Baxter has also been impressed by the manner in which returnee, Knowledge Musona, has adapted to the conditions at the camp;
“There is no question about his talent and he is also familiar with the surroundings. He has been trying to get as much information as possible to get to do things our way. Lorenzo Gordinho, who comes from our Development has also been doing well. We took him to the camp to try and push him a bit in order to get him to a certain level and he has responded well.”
There was an injury setback at training early on Thursday morning when defender Eric Mathoho injured his finger;
“The injury looks serious and we will have to monitor his situation closely. It is a bit of a challenge that he will not be able to train in the next couple of days - but we will have to soldier on. On the other hand I am impressed with Morgan (Gould). I would say he is ahead of schedule but we will not rush anyone at this stage.”
The Glamour Boys will return from the camp on the 14 July 2013 and will first defend the Gauteng Cup on Sunday, July 21 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium before turning their focus to the Carling Black Label to be hosted at FNB on Saturday, July 27.
