Absa PREMIERSHIP 2013/14 Season

Golden Arrows v Kaizer Chiefs

Moses Mabhida Stadium

Thursday 19 December 2013

19h00 kick-off

Bottom of the log, Golden Arrows face the challenge of trying to halt the Amakhosi's winning run in the Absa Premiership when the teams clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Thursday, 19 December 2013, kick-off at 19h00.

Kaizer Chiefs have been on a winning streak recording four conservative wins and occupying joint top in the league with only goal difference separating them from the log leaders.

Coach Stuart Baxter looked ahead of the away game optimistic but cautious of the current bottom of the log Arrows:

"On paper it looks easy for Chiefs to beat the bottom of the log team. In reality, there's no such thing. Unfortunately we have witnessed previously in football bottom teams causing major upsets. They will be desperate for points and it is not going to be easy for us especially away from home," commented Baxter.

Arrows suffered a third successive league defeat when they were beaten 3-0 at home by local rivals AmaZulu on Monday.

Arrows are placed 16th on the Absa Premiership log with 10 points from 13 matches.

"Their Coach Mark Harrison is still trying to organise the Team. It takes time especially when you try to get the workmanship of the Team right. It doesn't happen overnight. They have decent players who like to play and I think the coach is trying to get them to balance their good play with hard work," Baxter.

The Amakhosi have been on a rampage, brushing aside one opponent after the other in the league. Their fourth successive victory in the league came with their 1-0 win over University of Pretoria on Monday. The Soweto giants have claimed just seven points from their five away matches so far this season.

"There will be a couple of changes. George Lebese should be back on Sunday against AmaZulu. Lucky Baloyi is still out until January. We have to rotate the Team as we are facing a tough schedule with three back to back games in seven days. I should think we will pick up where we left off in the first half of the last game we played against TUKS. In the first half of that game we played some really good football. We will have to iron out some inconsistencies here and there," said Baxter.

The Amakhosi are placed second on the Absa Premiership log with 24 points from 12 matches. In head-to-head stats, Arrows and Chiefs have met in 26 league matches since 2000/01. The Amakhosi have 13 wins compared to six for Abafana Bes’thende, while seven matches have been drawn.

Last season the Amakhosi took four points off the Durban team, winning 3-0 at home and drawing 0-0 away.
