The Executive Chairman Kaizer Motaung, has on behalf of Kaizer Chiefs raised a concern in the way the matter relating to the release of the players to Bafana Bafana to play in the CHAN tournament from the 11th January to 1st February 2014, have been portrayed
Kaizer Chiefs would like to clarify the issue of the player release and also put other matters into perspective. The issue of the release of the players to Bafana Bafana has always been between the National Team Coach and the Kaizer Chiefs Team Coach. Therefore, there has not been any meeting to discuss release of players for CHAN.
The matter of the teleconference has been misrepresented in the media. The teleconference was as a result of the request by SAFA to bring forward the game between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs from the 28th January to the 23rd January 2014. This request was presented at the International Affairs meeting. The teleconference between SAFA President, Danny Jordaan, Mamelodi Sundowns, President Patrice Motsepe, PSL Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza and Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung was purely to discuss bringing the Sundowns vs Chiefs game forward as per the request.
We would like to also dispel what has been discussed in the media that the Football Manager Bobby Motaung is left with egg on his face and Chiefs was forced to release the players. The Football Manager was merely expressing the official statements of the Club and should not be vilified for the matter that rests upon the National Team Coach and the Team Coaches.
