CAF Champions League

Kaizer Chiefs (0)2 - (3)0 AS Vita Club

Kaizer Chiefs bowed out of the CAF Champions League at the hands of AS Vita Club of DRC. The Amakhosi were knocked out of the Continental Showpiece after recording a bitter-sweet 2 - 0 victory over the Kinshasa based outfit.

The victory that was not enough to cancel out the 0 - 3 shortfall that Chiefs faced before the ill-fated encounter at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

The match was dominated by the Referee's decisions and AS Vita Club' players antics. The Namibian referee Rainhold Shikongo ignored calls from the Chiefs' bench alerting him to time wasting tactics of their opponents.

Coach Stuart Baxter lamented the exit from the competition under the circumstances

"Their goalkeeper feigned an injury after another and took 15/16 seconds to take the ball when in possession, at times it was laughable to witness that. We need to improve the picture of football that we deliver to the world.

It was a total embarrassment. We made the 4th official aware that their goalie was cheating. We were timing him. He took 15/16 seconds to take the ball. If one of my players did that I would tell him that it is an embarrassment for the Team,"

Forced substitutions

"Any substitutions when they are forced, it takes away a little bit of your tactical ability to change your players a little bit later in the game. And the injuries to Musona and Pieterse happened when we were having a go at them. The prognosis indicated a twist of an ankle for Musona and a deep cut on top of the left eye for Pieterse. Until we have seen the scan results we will know the extent of the injuries,"

Participating in Confederation Cup

"We've just gone out of one competition and I cannot be excited to play in another competition. I am disappointed that we have gone out even though I am proud of the players. It is a blow. I find it difficult to raise excitement about playing in another competition,"

Goalkeeping situation with Pieterse likely to join Khune on the sideline due to injury

"We have three young keepers in our development sides. The older one is 20yrs and will be called up to training. This means Khune's recovery will be fast tracked given the situation,"

Back to PSL with Sundowns breathing on their neck

"We try to win every game we play. Sundowns performance has no effect on our plans. Sundowns draw or lose doesn't affect us. We have our job to do,"

Lessons from the Champions league

"It is not only about Chiefs. You have to look at it in SA perspective. We played three games away. In DRC we conceded two excellent goals. AS Vita created 4 chances combined in both legs and scored 3. We must have created a total of 10 chances in both legs but scored only 2. On the road in Africa, and understanding the dynamics of the competition, we should bury the chances. We also learned to have a strong character as a Team."

Baxter expressed his frustration and told the media that him and the Club will study the schedule before making any pronouncements about Chiefs's participation in the Confederation Cup.
