Khune knows all about the Soweto Derby having represented Kaizer Chiefs teams from the Club’s U-13 up to the senior level. Now as a captain, Khune is expected to lead his side from the dugout in a Derby that has been themed by the Club as ‘Moment of Glory’.

“It is a massive game,” said Khune speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Thursday afternoon. “It is going to be an interesting game. I have received information that the Derby will be showed around the world. We just have to focus on doing the job and make sure we extend our lead on top of the table.

Khune had his eyes glued to the screen playing the video showing the Club legends lifting the trophies back in past and recent history. Now it is up to the Ventersdorp born to follow other captains like Ryder Mofokeng, Howard Freeze, Neil Tovey, Brian Baloyi, Cyril Nzama and etc. to lead the Phefeni Glamour Boys to Reclaiming the Glory.

“It is not all about me. We have been doing well because as teammates we help each other to shine. It is not about me taking the glory. We work as a team as you have seen some of my teammates scoring crucial goals that have helped our course thus far in the league this season. I always try and put the team ahead of personal glory and it will remain the case on Saturday.

“The Club’s culture of winning is there and it is up to us as a current generation to continue doing well and keep the momentum. There are two trophies on offer this season but our focus is on the game against Orlando Pirates on Saturday. We will have to pass our next hurdle before thinking about what lies ahead.

“I see the Orlando Pirates game as a battle; there is war to be won. We need to remain strong mentally as in derbies all over the world mental strength remain a key aspect.

Khune called on the Club’s faithful to come in numbers and rally behind the team; “Having watched the clips from our past greatest sides one cannot help but notice the role that our supporters have played in the success of the Club.

I know they are going to come up in numbers on Saturday and they should know that we are going to the pitch with the aim to put smiles on their faces by the end of 90 minutes,” added Baxter.
