Siyabonga Nkosi said that supporters should expect more from the team this season.
The Newcastle born midfielder during his second stint with Amakhosi, was instrumental as the Glamour Boys maintained their superb form in the Absa Premiership. He scored the first goal and provided a headed pass that resulted in the second goal from Kingston Nkhatha.
Nicknamed ‘Doctor’ after Chiefs legend and current assistant coach, Doctor Khumalo, ‘Bonga’ who was celebrating his 31st birthday on Wednesday said the goal and the win was a ‘perfect birthday present’.
“It was more important for us to win the game more than anything else. The win for the team and the goal was a perfect birthday gift,” he said with a smile speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Friday morning.
‘Bonga’ who has now scored two goals in two games with a so called ‘weaker left foot’ said, “I think I have a better technique with my left foot as compared to my right foot.” remarked Nkosi.
Nkosi insisted that there is still a lot this team can offer, “I believe from a personal point of view that the team can still reach even greater heights this season. We have a lot of ground to cover even though we have managed to collect maximum points in the past two games.”
Bonga said the key to the team’s performance is leadership; “I have learnt throughout my career that personal management skills are crucial in the success of any team. When we lost against Mamelodi Sundowns, we focused on details rather than emotions and this time we were better prepared on all fronts.
Nkosi’s partnership with midfield maestro Reneilwe Letsholonyane also came under scrutiny; “We complement each other and most importantly, as a team we are willing to fight for the success of Kaizer Chiefs. Sometimes I sacrifice going forward in order to do defensive work and ‘Yeye’ would do the same. We communicate well on the field and I believe we can still deliver more for the Club this season.
“Our ambition as the team this season is to win the league and it is encouraging to start in the manner we did. It is going to get tougher as the season goes with matches coming thick and fast and we need to maintain the momentum. We need to take it one game at a time,” added Nkosi.
