“If you look at the other matches that we recently played, they were all cup finals,” insists Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter, before coming to tonight’s Polokwane City fixture. “This is a major cup final.”
Amakhosi will be looking at their chance to clinch the Absa Premiership title with three games remaining. The Polokwane clash will be played at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening (kick-off at 19:30).
“We see tonight’s match as one more game to go,” continues Baxter, referring to the mood in the camp. Chiefs top the log with 60 points, 13 points ahead of last season’s league champions and nearest chasers Mamelodi Sundowns.
“We want to clear this situation as quick as possible,” adds Baxter, looking at wrapping up the league tonight. “What this game means to the Club should be a driving force.”
The last time Rise and Shine visited Amakhosi at the FNB Stadium, Chiefs won 4-1.
“We will play our normal football. We are aware of their attacking flair and we are planning to counter that,” comments Baxter.
The players looked relaxed and confident ahead of the match as they walked off the training pitch on Tuesday afternoon.
“I can’t tell how the players feel,” concludes Baxter on a lighter note. “With soccer players you never know for sure. At least with race horses you can tell when they go into a big race, by looking at their shiny coat and sparkling eyes.”
The tickets for this crucial encounter at the FNB Stadium tonight are sold at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers at R40 for adults and R10 for children under the age of 12.
