The Premier Soccer League, together with its radio rights partners, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), today outlined plans that will see PSL football content on the broadcaster’s multiple radio platforms 24 hours.
Speaking at the launch held in Johannesburg this morning, PSL CEO Brand de Villiers said: “We are delighted to have reached the implementation phase of this important partnership between ourselves and SABC Radio. For the PSL and millions of football lovers in this country, radio remains one of the main sources of information and the implementation of this partnership will enable the PSL and its clubs to communicate on a daily and hourly basis with their supporters. We will promote our fixtures using the 11 official languages and create a platform for conversations.”
The contract is a trade-exchange, which means the SABC Is not be paying cash to the PSL, but will rather provide airtime, which is the organisation’s currency.
The partnership will see 11 SABC Radio stations continue with their traditional broadcasting of PSL matches live on Radio. On the 30th July 2014 at 17:05 pm the first of its kind football magazine show will take South Africa by storm. This unique show is about creating a conversation platform for all the PSL teams, encouraging match attendance, promoting the clubs as brands and profiling players. The show will be on nine (9) ALS (African Language Stations) as well as 2000FM, SAFM and RSG.
The Marketing Director Jessica Motaung said, “We appreciate this initiative as an opportunity for all the PSL teams. This will also allow the Clubs to explore the opportunities that will come with this innovation. This will also give the media and opportunity to extract more content and breaking stories from the Clubs.”
