Midfielder, Siphiwe Tshabalala was once again instrumental as the Glamour Boys sent University of Pretoria (Tuks) packing to book their place in the semifinals of the MTN8.
‘Shabba’ created the first two goals with well taken corner kicks before scoring one himself following a sublime pass from Bernard Parker to make it a convincing 3-0 win over Tuks. It was not a surprise that at the end of the game he was voted as Man of the Match.
Kaizer Chiefs have won the competition 14 times, more than any other team since it was established in 1972. They were the inaugural winners of the MTN8 back in 2008.
“It was a good win for us. We were expecting Tuks to come and fight for a win. They did try that especially in the opening stages of the game where they put our defence under pressure.”
“We then came back into the game with a well taken goal from ‘Masha’ (Tefu Mashamaite). We were dangerous on set pieces, both technically and tactically, we were superior. We continue to work very hard and we are improving game by game.”
“It is still too early to talk about winning the competition. The season has just started and we all know that we can do better both as a team and as individuals. We go to each and every game to give 100% and we are pleased to proceed to the next round. It would be interesting to see who we draw on Monday,” said Shabba.
Meanwhile the Soweto born midfielder joined the rest of the national team on Sunday in preparation for the Nelson Mandela Challenge against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday, 14 August and against Burkina Faso in the Nelson Mandela Sports and Recreation Day on Saturday, 17 August 2013 at FNB Stadium.
