“We play against Mpumalanga Black Aces at home and we have a pretty good home record,” stresses left-back Tsepo Masilela ahead of Amakhosi’s Absa Premiership fixture against AmaZayoni at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening (kick-off at 20:15).
The Black Aces fixture will be Chiefs’ third time at home for a league game this season. The games were against Free State Stars (4-0 win) and University of Pretoria (1-1 draw), gaining four point from two matches. Amakhosi gained five points on the road (four games).
Furthermore, Chiefs beat Maritzburg United (5-3) and Bloemfontein Celtic (1-0) at home for the MTN8.
“We are never afraid of any team,” adds Masilela, “and certainly not at home. The supporters always motivate us. They really make a difference with their vuvuzelas, especially when they fill up the stadium. I therefore hope that our supporters pitch up in numbers for the Black Aces game, because three points are at stake and we want to collect those.”
AmaZayoni have had an excellent start to the season, assembling 14 points from six matches. They are in second position, despite having the same number of points as log leaders Platinum Stars, who have a better goal difference.
Chiefs are at present in fifth position, having gained 10 points after six games played.
“We are the league champions,” comments Masilela about Amakhosi’s fifth position, “we are now the hunted. On the other hand, we haven’t lost a league game as yet. We just need to win more matches and be a little bit more consistent. Sometimes we get 1-0 up, but then give it away by allowing the opponent to equalise. That shouldn’t happen. We also play in patches at times. It’s important that we focus for the full 90 minutes. We need to up our concentration level.”
Saturday’s game promises to be an enthralling encounter between Chiefs and their former coach, Muhsin Ertugral, presently in charge of Black Aces.
