“We have won two games in a row and that has lifted the morale of the team,” Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi comments ahead of Wednesday’s fixture against Ajax Cape Town. Amakhosi will host the Urban Warriors at the FNB Stadium (kick-off at 19:30).
Nkosi scored the winner against Botswana’s Township Rollers on Saturday, helping Chiefs progress to the next round of the CAF Champions League. “It was more of a team goal,” he reflects modestly. “The preparation, the way the goal happened – it involved a couple a players. It was a structured goal for the team. It was crucial to get that win over Rollers.”
Chiefs got just one point from their two Absa Premiership clashes played so far in 2015, but they also booked three wins: two over Township Rollers (2-1 at home and 1-0) and Edu Sports in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 (4-0).
“We worked hard at training to fix a few problems,” Amakhosi’s Number 10 reacts, stressing that the last two encounters were won. “We also worked on our game plan.”
On Wednesday, the Urban Warriors await. “They are excellent on the ball and they are quick,” he reacts. “Ajax have a good side. However, we are motivated to get past them and get the three points.”
Amakhosi won the away match 1-0 thanks to Tefu Mashamaite’s goal in the 49th minute. The midfielder has usually done well against Ajax, while wearing the Chiefs jersey, but, as he stresses: “Past results are history.”
Nkosi started in the last two games, as Reneilwe Letsholonyane had to give attention to his family due to the passing away of his father.
“I always try to do my best whenever getting an opportunity to play,” Nkosi says. “It’s sometimes not easy, because when you don’t play regularly, you lack a bit of match rhythm. But I have now played two games in a row. However, the team always comes first. We have found our rhythm again and that’s a positive going into the game against Ajax.”
The tickets for the much anticipated fixture are sold at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide. Ticket costs R40 for adults and R10 for children under the age of 12.
