“The last games of the season bring different challenges,” insists Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter after just having completed the final preparation with the team at Chiefs Village on Monday afternoon.
Chiefs play the University of Pretoria tonight in an Absa Premiership fixture at Tuks Stadium (kick-off at 19:30).
“Every team is fighting for something at this stage of the season,” Baxter says. “Tuks are a challenge, because they are looking to get into the Top 8. We just have to relax and continue to take each game at a time. There are no easy games.”
The coach refuses to be drawn into talking about maybe having one hand on the trophy.
“Three points are our focus,” Baxter reacts. “This team has what it takes to win the title. Working hard is the order of the day to win games.”
On his squad, the Amakhosi coach adds: “Morgan Gould is our real worry because he’s out for the rest of the season. Everybody else is available. We will be looking for freshness in the team to not lose momentum.”
“Every player must show wanting to be part of the team. Itumeleng Khune is suspended. However, Brilliant Khuzwayo and Reyaad Pieterse have been doing well as replacements. On who will be in goal against Tuks - it's a call I will make together with the goalkeeping department.”
In the first round of the league fixtures, Chiefs conquered Tuks 2-1, courtesy of Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s brace.
Please arrive with a ticket at the stadium tonight, as none will be sold at the stadium. Tickets are sold at the Computicket for R40 for adults and R20 for children under the age of 12.
