Three weeks ago we were in the position to have been celebrating the league Championship today, having at one point been rank outsiders in the title race we played ourselves well into title contention.

With five games of the campaign to go, we were nicely poised to pull the title race down to the wire and pull the championship from under the nose of our closest rivals.

In the end we let ourselves down by not getting the results we needed - picking up two points from a possible nine out of our past three league matches in unacceptable for a team looking to win the league. Even more disappointing has been the fact that we dropped points against teams who were in the relegation zone, these were matches where the result was not negotiable and we had to win.

This past Saturday we once again threw away victory by not taking the opportunities that fell our way early on. We should have capitalized on the opportunities that we had and they were plentiful. Not scoring goals is not a new problem for us.

We have had this problem from early on in the campaign and for a while we overcame it as a number of midfielders got in on the act and scored a number of goals. The reality is that we have suffered a goal drought this season. The fact that our highest goal scorer is sitting on six goals for the season is evidence enough to show that we have really been goal shy.

Against Classic we wasted 25 chances and then we could not put the ball in the back of the net against Bush Bucks, Gert Schalkwyk created a good opening against Bucks - he rounded the keeper and instead of laying the ball off to Scara - He decided to go for goal which he missed and hit the side netting, David Mathebula struck the cross bar and was unlucky. David Obua could have done much better with the rebound which he skied into the stands.

Scara was given the opportunity to play once again. I really felt that he carried out the instructions that were given to him and I feel he has come along way and is now a much more disciplined player on and off the field.

One down side to his performance on Saturday was that when he created chances - he did not take the responsibility and go for goal instead he tried to set up a team mate. In all he has improved and going forward the signs are good that Scara can play a big role in our future success.

Having said that, I have absorbed a lot over the weekend and the reality is that the league is all but gone for this season. We need to begin our search for next season and decide what kind of reinforcements we need. Finding the right kind of striking combination is our first job - thereafter we take a decision as to who will stay and who will go.
