“I know that we can win on Saturday, the team is playing well we have the correct kind of guidance from the coaching staff .I feel we can get into the quarterfinal of the ABSA Cup” says Mathebula. He continues further by adding “we will be looking for a lot of goals on Saturday, I am not saying that because we are playing a first division team, should we have been up against any PSL side I would have had the same thoughts. A lot of goals and easy passage in the quarterfinals will do enough to lift us up and get the maximum points out of our remaining PSL matches”.
Mathebula also believes playing SuperSport United first up in the ABSA has set Chiefs up for what could be a longer than usual run in the ABSA Cup and could eventually lead to a cup triumph. “ Defeating the defending champions in the beginning meant a lot to us as a team and to me as an individual. It was a special victory because I scored and helped my team through to the next round.
We have had a bad record against SuperSport in cups generally over the last ten years, so setting that record straight was another big achievement, and since we beat SuperSport we are upbeat about our chances in the next round. We have ninety minutes between us and another psychological barrier, which is getting into the quarterfinal, which is a stage; we have not yet got to since ABSA began sponsoring the event. Our idea is to cross to new frontiers and bring home Chiefs first league and national cup double since 1992” added David.
Chiefs get the chance to cross the bridge into the quarterfinals of the ABSA Cup on Saturday evening at the FNB Stadium, The Amakhosi hope it will be a crossing over calm waters as they aim to ease past Pillars into the promised land of the ABSA Cup quarterfinals.
Kick off for the game is at 20h00 tickets for which are currently available at computicket outlets country wide as well as Shoprite & Checkers Stores, in addition tickets are also available at the Amakhosi Store in Gandhi Square in Johannesburg.
