With Manchester United’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Chiefs arch rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday afternoon in Durban, the warning bells have been sounded by the Red Devils who many believed would be in for a few shocking results on their tour of South Africa.

The United manager Sir Alex Ferguson would have been particularly pleased with the way his second stringers performed on Saturday, as he had given the players who had competed in the FIFA World Cup a few extra days of rest.

By scoring four goals past Pirates the writing is on the wall for Amakhosi that although United are missing the likes of Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gary Neville, they still have a number of players who are capable of wrecking havoc.

Speaking from Chiefs luxurious base outside of Stellenbosch, Chiefs captain Cyril Nzama has warned his team mates to be ready for the fight of their lives on Tuesday evening. “If anybody thought Manchester United were here on a holiday, they should really think again. We are aware that we will have a real tough game on our hands on Tuesday”.

Nzama, who has competed at the highest level in South Africa and abroad at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, feels Chiefs key to victory on Tuesday will be to approaching the game with a level head.

He continues further “we are aware now that they are big team with quality players, and we know we have to fight with all we got, on the other hand we will not be over awed by Man United.

In our favour we do have the likes of Shaun Bartlett, Jimmy Tau and Thabo Mooki, experienced players who can help the younger guys stay focused and help guide them through the game”.

For Nzama keeping a clean sheet in the first half as well as attacking their opponents will go along way to ensuring Chiefs give a good account. Even though United are off to a winning start in South Africa, an upset could still be on the cards.

“We just need to keep up the self belief that we can win the game, and have faith in our abilities as a team and we should be able to gain a morale boosting result not just for us but for our players and South African soccer in general” said Cyril.

The Chiefs captain is also buoyed by the fact that the team returned for pre season training almost ten days earlier than they did last season.

The thorough preparation the team has gone through in pre season will stand them in good stead through the Vodacom Challenge and beyond. “The team came back when the FIFA World Cup was on and the guys had to start focussing their attention on beginning the pre season period.

I must take my hat off to all the players because they have really worked hard in ensuring that we are fit mentally and physically way before the PSL season starts”.

Nzama and his team mates will be out on the training ground early on Sunday morning, once again in rainy, windy and cold conditions as they feel the full might of the Western Cape winter.

After training, the Chiefs players have been given the day off on Sunday, and Cyril Nzama weather permitting, will be heading to the golf course to tackle Rowen Fernandez over nine holes.

Manchester United are expected to arrive late Sunday afternoon in the Mother City, and will no doubt receive an icy reception of more than one front.
