“We need to respect our job,” Siboniso ‘Pa’ Gaxa reacted on the question how the Kaizer Chiefs players keep hungry, despite already winning so many trophies over the last few years.

“We need to respect our job. We have a short (soccer) career, during which we want to win things. Not every player gets an opportunity to play in a final. We try to be humble and we keep fighting, working hard.”

The right-back delivered a sterling performance in Amakhosi’s 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal. For this, he got the Man of the Match award and, with it, R8 000.

“It was a tough game,” reflected Gaxa on the Saturday night’s game at the FNB Stadium. “We won and we are happy to go to the MTN8 final. Now, we just want to celebrate and enjoy.”

Then, he added: “Soccer is not about individuals, it’s always about the team. You win together, you lose together. We fought tonight as a team.”

“Credit also goes to the coach, who adjusted the tactics to Celtic’s changed formation,” Gaxa concluded, before stressing that the visitors had their chances as well. “Itumeleng Khune had a fantastic game, helping us to keep a clean sheet at the back.”

Sunday’s clash between Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town will decide who Amakhosi will face in the MTN8 final. The first leg of the cup’s semifinal ended in a 1-1 draw in Cape Town.

The PSL will decide on Monday where, in which city, the MTN8 final will be played on Saturday, 19 September.
