It’s another busy week ahead for Kaizer Chiefs. After a 10-day break, Amakhosi play two matches over the coming seven days, either side of Club founder, Kaizer ‘Chincha Guluva’ Motaung being inducted into the South African Hall of Fame.

First up will be a crucial home game on Wednesday night against bottom side Cape Town Spurs at FNB Stadium. The match will be played behind closed doors after Amakhosi were sanctioned by the League for fan violence in the Carling Black Label first round match last month.

Wednesday night’s game will take many Chiefs players, who are used to playing in front of thousands of people, to the ‘Bubble football’ days where they found themselves playing without supporters in the stadium as only players, officials and key staff will be permitted in the stadium.

Coach Cavin Johnson will be in the dugout for his second match in charge, against Spurs who have their tails up after securing their first three points of the season against Orlando Pirates last Wednesday. The Capetonians will be hoping to make it six points from the two Soweto giants in a space of seven days, but Amakhosi will be equally motivated, as they seek a morale booster ahead of the all-important Soweto Derby on Saturday.

The Glamour Boys will be forced to make one change in the midfield as Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa is suspended for the match, having picked up four cautions over the season. Coach Johnson will need to look at other combinations in the middle of the park while ensuring players give it their all and not focus ahead to Saturday’s match.

The Urban Warriors are rooted to the bottom of the log at number 16 with three points after nine matches. Amakhosi are in an unfamiliar 10th position after 10 matches, with 11 points in the kitty.

Even though there will be no supporters in the stadium, Chiefs players will be inspired by knowing that thousands of disciplined fans who could have attended the match, will be at home supporting them.

No tickets will be sold for the match. However, supporters are urged to support the Boys remotely by watching it on television, listen to commentary on radio or follow the Club’s social media platforms for updates.

The match kicks off at 19:30 on Wednesday at FNB Stadium. It will be shown on SuperSport PSL Channel 202.
