Kaizer Chiefs find themselves in unfamiliar circumstances this evening when they play Cape Town Spurs at FNB Stadium without any supporters in the stadium. The reason for the situation is that Amakhosi were charged with fan violence in their last home game and the PSL DC decided to fine the Club and not allow supporters to attend the match.

Coach Cavin Johnson, who will be in charge of his second game as Amakhosi’s mentor, believes the situation is not entirely new as most players managed to play without supporters during the Covid-19 lockdown days between late 2020 and mid 2022.

Cape Town Spurs, who won promotion to the DStv Premiership at the end of last season, are in a confident mood this evening after scraping Orlando Pirates’ scalp in their last league match – which was their first win of the season, following eight straight losses. Chiefs, on the other hand, need to win the match after a poor run of form in the last few matches.

Chiefs are now 12^th on the log, with 11 points after 10 matches. The visitors are still at the bottom of the table, with 3 points after 9 matches.

Amakhosi have made five changes to the team that played the last match against Golden Arrows. Four changes are tactical, and one is forced, with Sibongiseni Mthethwa missing the match after picking up his fourth yellow in the last encounter.

The formation is 4-3-3 for the match.

Itumeleng Khune is back in goal, replacing Brandon Petersen.

Edmilson Dove also returns after recovering from injury and will replace S’fiso Hlanti at left-back. Thatayaone Ditlhokwe is at centre-back, and will work with Given Msimango who takes Njabulo Ngcobo’s place in the back. Reeve Frosler keeps his position at right-back.

Yusuf Maart will hold the midfield. Sibongiseni Mthethwa’s suspension means Nkosingiphile Ngcobo gets a chance and he will work with Edson Castillo in supplying the attackers.

Wingers Keagan Dolly, on the left and young Mduduzi Shabalala on the right, will man the flanks.

The referee for this evening’s match is Michael Mosemeng. His assistants are Brian Kganyago and Jimmy Kgaphola. The fourth official is Jelly Chavani.
