With Hellenic currently undergoing a difficult patch in their history, Chiefs must have fancied their chances with a possibility of scoring more than one goal. However, the Greek Gods put up a brave performance and managed to go into the break with their goal still intact.

This must have given them a huge morale boost, considering that their opposition has been playing very well of late and are yet to lose a game in the Premier League.

Chiefs, who battled to cross the Hellenic defence or rattle Gareth Ormshaw’s net, brought on Lucky Maselesele at the beginning of the second half in place of Phumlani Mkhize and this move paid dividends as the Naturena side started venturing into the Hellenic area more often than not.

Persistent attack from Chiefs paid dividends in the 51st minute. Pule, who was heading goal wards, was brought down in the box by Moses Malabela and referee Jonas Nhlapo pointed to the spot.

Malawian international defender Patrick Mabedi stepped up to put Chiefs in the lead and that was the end of goal celebrations for Amakhosi supporters.

Hellenic seemed more concerned about protecting their goal area than putting the ball into Brian Baloyi’s net. The Chiefs goal-minder only flexed his muscle in the 37th minute in spectacular fashion to thwart Hellenic.

Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral took the opportunity to introduce his new striker Shaun Permall for his first match in the Chiefs colours. The former Ajax marksman was been out of action since the beginning of the season with injury.
