Kaizer Chiefs put on an improved performance against home team Seongnam in their second Group A match at Suwon on Thursday, but it was not enough as their Peace Cup dream ended with the 1-0 defeat.

Following the 2-0 defeat by French club Lyon on Tuesday, Amakhosi needed to win to keep their dream of qualifying for the final alive. Chiefs started positively, learning their lesson from the poor opening in the first match.

First-choice goalkeeper Brian Baloyi was relegated to the stands with a thumb injury sustained in Tuesday's match, with Rowen Fernandez taking over the reigns. And for his part the second choice keeper never disappointed as he made some breathtaking saves to keep the South Koreans at bay.

Striker David Radebe was given a place on the bench with Swaziland international Sbusiso Dlamini in the starting line-up alongside Kabamba Musasa.

The hosts, who won their opening match against Turkish champions Besiktas 2-1 on Tuesday, were patient and their build-ups looked dangerous.

A lapse in concentration at the back after 18 minutes granted Seongnam the opportunity to go ahead. Kim Do-Hoon did well to turn under pressure from David Kannemeyer and fire low into the net.

Midfielders Jabu Pule and Stanton Fredericks continued from where they left off in the opening match as they troubled the South Koreans while creating numerous chances - most of which went to waste.

Chiefs fought until the last minute but their efforts were not enough to secure a draw or an upset win against the home side. The Glamour Boys play their last group match on Saturday against Besiktas at Busan Stadium.
