The club’s golden anniversary will be a year-long celebration of events and activities that pays tribute to the loyal supporters, phenomenal players, dedicated staff and partners that have been integral to the club’s success over the years.
“Turning 50 is a remarkable landmark for us as Kaizer Chiefs. We have worked tirelessly through the years to make the club the institution it is today. The new jersey pays tribute to the club’s strong heritage and rich history. We truly stand on the shoulders of giants, as our Chairman always says, and we look forward to celebrating this year and milestone with the club’s supporters,” says Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung.
The club’s 50th anniversary logo is the number ‘50’ with the ‘5’ representing the long, winding and often turbulent road the club has travelled. The circular ‘zero’ represents the unity Kaizer Chiefs have always stood for on and off the field, while the arrow in the logo points to the future evolution of the club.
Launched in partnership with the club’s technical sponsor, Nike, the new classic all-black 50th anniversary jersey, with its gold V-neck and gold band around the sleeves, is a tribute to the club’s formative years and early jerseys worn in the 1970’s.
It was unveiled online in memorable fashion today by some of the club’s most influential and popular current and former players, Doctor Khumalo, Vusi ‘Computer’ Lamola and Bernard Parker.
Legendary former and current players, and some of the club’s most dedicated employees and fans, will be part of the journey to showcase the 50th anniversary theme, jersey and merchandise in the coming weeks.
The new commemorative jersey, the club’s third jersey of the season, will be available for sale to supporters from Monday 6 January 2020 at the Kaizer Chiefs Village and all Kaizer Chiefs retail stores, online at the kcdigistore.com, as well as major retailers.
The club will return to its roots this week with a thanksgiving event at its spiritual home in Phefeni, Soweto.
The big 50th birthday party will take place with the club’s supporters at the FNB Stadium at the home ABSA Premiership game against Highlands Park on Wednesday 8 January, with over 80 000 supporters expected at a full-house FNB Stadium after the club made tickets available free of charge as a gesture of appreciation to its loyal fans.
The club’s first team players will debut the new jersey for the first time in the game against Highlands Park on Wednesday.
