Amakhosi U-23 coach, Vela Khumalo wants his players to learn a valuable lesson from their thumping win over Richards Bay in their last DStv Diski Challenge outing.

The coach and his technical team have emphasised the importance of converting opportunities into goals.

“With regards to the 5-0 win over Richards Bay, I think the boys were just clinical on the day. If you look at our other games, we create a lot of chances but have been missing many of them. So, it’s nothing new except that against Richards Bay we put our chances away,” he tells www.kaizerchiefs.com, as the reserve team prepares to face TS Galaxy away on Sunday.

Enjoying a resounding win where everything comes off is not an invitation to take the foot off the pedal. The mentors of the next generation of Glamour Boys want to instil a relentless appetite within these players to go for better every time they step out on the field.

“Going into our next match, what we are looking for is whether these players can maintain this form and continue to strive be as ruthless in front of goal as they have shown they can be, or even do better and score more goals,” he explains, adding, “We know TS Galaxy very well. We beat them 2-0 earlier this season in the first round. We want to see that mentality to keep wanting more, and not sitting on their laurels and think it will be a walk in the park.”

After 19 rounds, Amakhosi lie 4th on the league table with 34 points, seven behind the leaders.

The Round 20 DStv Diski Challenge match kicks off at noon on Sunday at the Tsakane stadium in Ekurhuleni.
