Back-to-back man of the match awards and four goal contributions this season - two goals and two assists - have earned Amakhosi midfielder Lebohang Maboe a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad for two upcoming 2027 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as well as a friendly against Egypt in Cairo.

Maboe expressed his elation at being included in coach Pitso Mosimane’s first squad of his second spell at the helm of the South African national team, saying, “It’s really, really a pleasure to don the national team jersey. It is a dream for every footballer, for every kid that grows up. I can never take this milestone lightly.”

Maboe will be looking to add to his 17 international caps in the upcoming international window, where Bafana Bafana will face Group D opponents Guinea at home at the Orlando Amstel Arena on 26 September, before playing Eritrea in Cairo on 30 September.

They will remain in the Egyptian capital to face the Pharaohs in a friendly international game on 4 October. Maboe was an unused substitute when Bafana Bafana defeated hosts Egypt 1-0 in a 2019 AFCON Round of 16 game.
