Nkosi, one of Chiefs’ key players this season, had to be substituted during the game against the Swaziland national team, after getting a knock to the ankle and has been given the rest of the week off to allow his ankle to heal properly.
With Chiefs’ next league game on the 1st April, the Amakhosi are in the position to give the talented midfielder the opportunity to put his legs up and rest his injured ankle for the next couple of days.
Chiefs coach Kosta Papic is happy to give Nkosi the time off, and is confident that he will be back at training on Monday. The Chiefs coach said; “from the information supplied to me surrounding Siyabonga’s injury, I can say that it is not too serious. All he requires is to rest his ankle for a few days. I have told him to take it easy and report back for training on Monday morning. We are lucky not to have any matches in the next 15 days so we are able to give our players time off at intervals over the next week particularly to get some time to rest.”
Nksoi in the meantime says that he is not experiencing the same kind of discomfort that he did on Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning, adding “I felt much better later on Wednesday I was able to jog slowly with out much pain, I do feel that by Monday I should be strong enough to resume full training”.
On matters away from his ankle problems, Nkosi is confident that he will be part of Carlos Alberto Parreira’s squad to face Chad in an CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and a friendly international match, scheduled for later this month when the Brazilian announces his squad for these two matches on Thursday.
“I believe that over the last couple of games at club level I have been playing much better and I feel a lot of things have fallen into place for me. Particularly against my old friends at Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday, we played really well and all our hard work on the training ground paid off. Those performances coupled with the way I played against the Swazi’s and the effort I put in at the National team training camp in February, has demonstrated that I am willing to work hard for my place in the team whether it be at club level or with Bafana Bafana,” said Nkosi.
Papic has further added that he could give Siyabonga and a number of first team regulars a run out with the Chiefs reserves, when they come up against their Orlando Pirates counterparts on Monday afternoon in Eldorado Park.
Papic believes that with Chiefs inactive for the next two weeks it is imperative that his players keep match fit, and that the reserve team matches present him with the perfect opportunity to do just that.
