Kaizer Chiefs attacker, Mduduzi Shabalala believes Amakhosi’s impressive form in CAF competition is the perfect motivation for the team to take into their Betway Premiership encounter against Durban City at Moses Mabhida stadium on Friday evening.
The Phefeni Glamour Boys produced an outstanding display of attacking football to oust AS Simba from the Democratic Republic of Congo from the CAF Confederations Cup by an aggregate score of 3-1, having defeated them by the same score in the second-leg at Dobsonville stadium last Sunday, following a 0-0 draw in the first-leg in Lubumbashi a week earlier.
“It was a great confidence booster for us to score three goals and we will take that into the match against Durban City,” ‘Mdu-or-Die’, as he is nicknamed, tells www.kaizerchiefs .com as they prepare to travel to the east coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
Amakhosi view this fixture as a chance to revive their league prospects after failing to gain maximum points in any of their last three matches, although Shabalala feels it will only take minor adjustments to turn their fortunes around.
“For us, it is very important to get a good result in this match. We have been playing well but haven’t converted our chances as we would want to,” Shabalala explains, adding, “This is a good opportunity for us, as Kaizer Chiefs, to get back on track for a good season in the league. We just need to stick with what we are doing and turn the chance we create into goals.”
Fourth-placed Chiefs sit one place and one point ahead of their opponents after nine rounds of the Betway Premiership and will want to put some daylight between them by collecting all three points on Friday.
“We will give them the respect they deserve for having a good start to the season,” says the 21-year-old, “but our main focus is on ourselves and what we want to achieve, which is to make sure to turn our good performances into results.”
The exciting event takes place on Friday, 31 October at Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban, kicking off at 19:30.
Tickets for the match are available online at Ticketpro and at selected Spar supermarkets and various filling stations for R80.
