“We are happy to play again for the Macufe Cup,” Willard Katsande comments. “We are prepared to fight hard to uphold the Kaizer Chiefs badge. It is important for us to make sure that we represent the badge with honour whenever we take on an opponent.”

Amakhosi will defend this year’s edition of the Sparta Macufe Cup against Bloemfontein Celtic at Free State Stadium on Sunday, 8 October. Kick-off is at 15:00.

Katsande spoke at the Macufe Cup media launch in Bloemfontein. “We appreciate this invite, because it gives us an opportunity to keep match-fit during the Fifa-break,” mentions the Chiefs midfielder.

“We are professionals enough to realise that our supporters are not happy with our current league form. This match will give us another opportunity to sample some of the tactics, as we prepare for our upcoming league matches.”

The Glamour Boys have won the Macufe Cup five times since the first edition in 2004 and would like to continue with the tradition of dominating the trophy count in any cup competition.

“Chiefs have a rich history of winning trophies,” admits Katsande. “We go into any match with the history of the club in mind. Walking through the tunnel in the Gold and Black colours is a privilege. On Sunday, that same attitude will continue.”

About Celtic as opponents, Katsande mentions: “We are aware that they won their last match in the league.” The midfielder refers to Celtic’s recent 1-0 win over Bidvest Wits. “They will be motivated coming into the game on Sunday. However, make no mistake, when it comes to Chiefs, the next match is what is important. We want to give our supporters something to cheer about and take back home.”
