Amakhosi will kick off 2023 and celebrate their 53th birthday today with an exciting match against Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium this evening.

The team that was formed on this day in 1970 will want to start the year with a convincing win after finishing last year with a 2-0 victory away to Lamontiville Golden Arrows in their previous encounter in Durban last Saturday.

Sekhukhune United had a midweek clash against Marumo Gallants and recorded a morale boosting 3-2 win in the Limpopo derby out in Polokwane.

Chiefs are still 4th on the log, with 24 points after 14 matches. Wednesday’s victory saw the visitors, Sekhukhune. move up three places from position 15 to 12 on the DStv Premiership log. They have now collected 15 points from 14 fixtures.

Amakhosi go into this match with the hope of crowning this special day in victory, with many legends of the Club in attendance to celebrate the occasion.

Coach Arthur Zwane will be happy to welcome attacker Ashley Du Preez and George Matlou back into the team after they missed the last match through injury. They will, however, start on the bench.

The coach has decided to not make any changes to the team that collected maximum points against Arrows last time out.

The team will go for a 4-5-1 formation once again.

Itumeleng Khune, who was voted man of the match last weekend, will be the goalkeeper.

He will have Reeve Frosler on the right of the defence. Zitha Kwinika and last weekend’s second goal scorer, Edmilson Dove, as central central defenders, while S’fiso Hlanti will play at left-back.

The young Samkele Zwane is again paired with Yusuf Maart in midfield.

They will have Nkosingiphile Ngcobo just in front of them, flanked by Keagan Dolly on the right and Kamahole Mahlatsi, who starts his second consecutive game, on the left in Chiefs’ attack.

Last weekend’s other goal scorer, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, will again lead the attack.

Khune will captain the team.

This evening’s match officials are referee, Siyabulela Qunta, assistant referees, Lubabalo Pitsha and Thembinkosi Mangai, and the fourth official is Romario Phiri.

The Glamour Boys and Babina Noko will kick off 20:00 at FNB Stadium . The match will be shown live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv, and various SABC radio stations, with regular updates from the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
