Kaizer Chiefs’ continued to fly the Gold & Black flag high on Saturday at the Gauteng leg of the annual Engen Knockout Challenge held at Marks Park in Johannesburg. This was at the junior Amakhosi team advanced to the semi-finals of the U18 annual tournament after winning two more games on Saturday.


Chiefs U18s were drawn in Group D of the 16-team tournament and won all their three group matches against Randburg FC, defending champions Jomo Cosmos and Highlands Park.

After beating Randburg FC and Cosmos on Friday, the young Glamour Boys thumped Highlands Park 2-1 on Saturday to advance to the knockout stages of the tournament. Wandile Duba and Jeremiah Thanyane were on the scoresheet for Chiefs in the final game in the group stages.


Group D leaders Amakhosi faced off against Group B runners-up Black Aces in the quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.  Mfundo Vilakazi and Duba’s goals secured the semi-final spot for Chiefs U18s as they beat Aces 2-0.


Duba’s goal against Amazayoni was his third after four games in the last two days at the popular youth tournament.


The Chiefs U18 team coached by Ace Khuse and Vela Khumalo will square off against the School of Excellence in the semis set to kick off on Sunday at 11:00 at the same venue.


The ladies’ finals will take place at 14:00, followed by the boys’ final at 15:30, where if triumphant, Chiefs will meet either SuperSport United or Mamelodi Sundowns U18s.


The winners will face other provincial winners later in the year for the national champions title.
